Açıklama

By Night in Chile is a novel by Roberto Bolaño that explores the life of a Chilean priest named Father Urrutia, who is narrating his final moments while reflecting on his past. Through a single-night monologue, the novel recounts Urrutia’s experiences, revealing his complex involvement with the country's political landscape, particularly during the time of General Augusto Pinochet's regime. The priest’s narrative touches on his role in the oppressive cultural and political environment, his interactions with writers and intellectuals, and his gradual loss of moral compass. As Urrutia's life unravels, Bolaño paints a haunting portrait of a man complicit in the horrors of dictatorship, blending dark humor and tragic insight into the implications of his actions. The novel probes themes of guilt, complicity, and the intersection of intellectual life and political power.
