Açıklama

The Many Masks of Andy Zhou by Jack Cheng is a heartfelt coming-of-age story that delves into themes of identity, friendship, and self-discovery. The book follows Andy Zhou, a young boy navigating the challenges of growing up between two cultures, trying to understand who he truly is while dealing with changes in his family and friendships. With poetic writing and emotional depth, Cheng portrays the struggles of belonging and the courage it takes to be authentic in a world full of expectations. Andy Zhou is used to being what everyone expects of him: a dutiful son to his parents, a good grandson to his grandparents who just arrived from Shanghai, and a constant companion in his best friend, Cindy's plans. So when Cindy decides they should sign up for the movement group on the first day of sixth grade, how can Andy object? Now, Andy is faced with many problems: suddenly, he finds himself performing on stage in front of everyone, he struggles with bullying in science class from his new classmate, Jamil, and at home, he witnesses tensions between his father and grandfather. Over time, and thanks to Haichu candies, the relationship between Andy and Jamil changes, and new doors - along with new challenges - open up for him; But Andy soon realizes that among all the roles he plays for others and the various masks he puts on his face, finding his true self is the most difficult challenge he faces.
