The Story of the Daughters of Quchan: Gender and National Memory in Iranian History Book by Afsaneh Najmabadi (Farsi)

Açıklama

The Story of the Daughters of Quchan by Afsaneh Najmabadi examines Iran’s Constitutional Revolution through the controversial exploitation of girls, who were sold or taken in tribal raids to pay oppressive taxes. The book explores how ancient and emerging systems of protection, often framed around male honor, constrained women’s freedom while fueling nationwide demands for justice and reform. Najmabadi shows how popular movements at this historical turning point transformed law and governance, gradually reducing the need to hide women from rulers or raiders. Combining historical research with social analysis, the book highlights the intersections of gender, power, and political change in early twentieth-century Iran.
