A Personal Matter Book by Kenzaburō Ōe (Farsi)

Açıklama

A Personal Matter (1964) by Kenzaburō Ōe is a provocative and deeply introspective novel that highlights central themes in Japanese literature. It tells the story of Bird, a young man in his twenties whose life is defined by personal stagnation and a desperate desire to escape responsibility. When his wife gives birth to a severely brain-damaged child, he faces a profound moral and emotional dilemma. Struggling between his yearning for freedom, fear of fatherhood, and societal expectations, Bird must confront his inner conflicts and come to terms with his fractured identity. Ōe masterfully intertwines the protagonist’s psychological turmoil with broader reflections on postwar Japanese society, exploring responsibility, personal growth, and the human struggle for autonomy and self-understanding in a world of ambiguity and suffering.
