Measure for Measure Play by William Shakespeare (Farsi)

Açıklama

Measure for Measure is a dark comedy (often called a “problem play”) by William Shakespeare that mixes moral inquiry with satirical elements. Set in Vienna, the Duke temporarily leaves the city and appoints the strict Angelo to enforce old laws against sexual immorality. Claudio, a young man, is sentenced to death for impregnating his fiancée. His sister Isabella, preparing to become a nun, pleads for his life. Angelo agrees to spare Claudio only if Isabella submits to a sexual bargain—an offer that exposes themes of power, hypocrisy, and ethical compromise. The play questions justice and human desire, challenging simple distinctions between virtue and corruption. Unlike pure comedy or tragedy, it blends humor with serious social critique, making it a complex exploration of law and morality. Supplementary materials in editions often include historical context and performance commentary to aid understanding of Shakespeare’s intentions and Elizabethan theater.
