The Outlaw One-act by August Strindberg (Farsi)

Açıklama

“The Outlaw” by August Strindberg is a one-act historical play written in 1871 and first performed at the Royal Theatre in Stockholm the same year. Set in a medieval Viking world, the play carries an epic atmosphere inspired by Icelandic sagas. It portrays a harsh and unforgiving society where law, honor, and survival are in constant conflict. The protagonist, Torfin, is an outcast—truly “outside the law”—struggling against storms, the sea, and memories of abandonment. His repeated cries of “Alone! Alone! Alone!” reflect existential isolation and the harsh realities of a world where justice and law do not align. Structured more as a poetic monologue than conventional dialogue-driven drama, the play emphasizes Torfin’s inner voice and psychological struggle between pride and despair.
