An Enemy of the People Play by Arthur Miller (Farsi)

Açıklama

An Enemy of the People is Arthur Miller’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s 1882 play of the same name. Miller rejected the notion that adaptation is a lesser artistic act; for him, reworking Ibsen was neither an act of simplification nor appropriation, but a reaffirmation of the playwright’s enduring relevance. He believed Ibsen’s moral courage, intellectual rigor, and resistance to social hypocrisy remained vital for modern theatre. Concerned that contemporary productions had diluted Ibsen’s force, Miller sought to restore the drama’s urgency, emphasizing the stage as a forum for ideas, ethical conflict, and civic responsibility. His version underscores the necessity of drama that thinks with both intellect and conscience.
