The Visit Play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt (Farsi)

Açıklama

The Visit by Friedrich Dürrenmatt is a dark tragicomic masterpiece of black comedy and moral provocation. Set in the decaying town of Güllen, the play follows Claire Zachanassian, a wealthy and aged woman who returns seeking vengeance against the former lover who betrayed her years ago. She offers the townspeople an immense fortune in exchange for the man’s death, forcing them to confront the corrosive power of greed and the fragility of ethical principles. Dürrenmatt avoids simple moral judgments—no character in Güllen is entirely innocent, and the townsfolk’s gradual acceptance of the proposal exposes the unsettling compromises of modern society. Through satire and philosophical tension, the play challenges audiences to examine justice, responsibility, and the price of collective self-interest.
