The Lower Depths Play by Maxim Gorky (Farsi)

Açıklama

“The Lower Depths” is a four-act play written in 1902 by Maxim Gorky. It depicts the lives of impoverished, marginalized characters living in a grim underground lodging house. Through realistic and compassionate storytelling, the play explores poverty, human dignity, and the psychological struggles of individuals on society’s fringes. Characters are morally complex—neither purely good nor bad—reflecting the harsh conditions that shape their behavior. Hope and despair coexist as the residents search for meaning and connection. Gorky raises philosophical questions about human existence without providing definitive answers, encouraging the audience to reflect on social injustice and personal responsibility. Considered a landmark of modern drama, the play offers both a powerful social critique and an enduring exploration of human resilience.
